Wanderlust Festival a success!

yoga-john-friend-at-wanderlust

NicolePresents was very happy to be a part of the local San Francisco marketing team for the Wanderlust festival providing viral & guerilla marketing and social networking to assist in making this first ever yoga & music festival a success!

The New York Times shared a nice review and Nicole made it into the picture (although she’s so small its really an exercise in ‘where’s waldo?’ ).

Calling all DJs, Artists, & Designers

July 14th, 2009 | Category: Fashion, Interesting Tidbits, Music

A post from Vanessa Salazar
Calling all DJ’s, Artists & Designers:

My amazing friends at 440 Brannan Studios are interested in hosting events at the shop to pull a broader client base and to feature all that is creative and wonderful about our city…YOU!!! Jill & Brian, specifically, have supported my work and opened many doors for me to progress as a designer. I am so very grateful for them and hope to return the favor by offering up your talents to make their events more spectacular.

All events will offer booze, snacks and a unique shopping experience once a week. Local Designers featured at the studio include: gr.dano, Distilled, OM (t-shirts), Vanessa Salazar (jewelry), Spatterdash, 5733, Kirsten Muenster and many more.

We are looking for any artistic genre that will add to the guests’ experience. Since there are no decks here we will work something out with the DJ’s to make it worth your while to bring some. For you up-and-comers, this could be a nice spot to loosen up and get comfy playing out more.

Live art and/or gallery style openings are also welcome. There is art up here but we’re looking to showcase a wider range of what SF has to offer.

Live screen-printing is cool because it will directly add to the shopping aspect of the events.

We are steering clear of fashion shows for obvious reasons.

If anyone has other ideas, please share! It’s a nice space with so much to offer. Let’s get creative :)

Call me or FB me anytime. I would like to have a list of interested contacts assembled to give to Jill before I move away July 25th. So, let me know a.s.a.p. if there is anything you would like to contribute to these events.

Thanks All!

Love,
Vanessa Salazar

Submission Info – Funk n’ Trunk event series

July 13th, 2009 | Category: Designer Submissions - Funk n' Trunk

FUNK N’ TRUNK

Independent Designer Trunk Show Event Series

About Us

Funk n’ Trunk began in San Francisco in 2004. Developed by NicolePresents and Levende Lounge, Funk n’ Trunk ran for over two years as one of the most successful monthly trunk shows in the city.  It was recognized as a premiere independent designer showcase for unique, funky, trendsetting fashions for both men and women.

Designed to be an intimate experience, you were able to interact with designers, commission designs and even get on-site hemming. The Funk n’ Trunk, along with several other large trunk shows, gave momentum to the rise and success of the independent design community by boosting the visibility of the participating designers to a mainstream market that may not have had access to their designs previously. Many of the key participants now have successful storefronts such as Miranda Caroligne, The Mission Statement and The Trunk. Many others boast very successful online businesses.

Offering a mix of men’s and women’s fashion, jewelry and accessories, the Funk n’ Trunk also combined DJs, brunch and the infamous Bloody Mary bar to round out the shopping experience.  The concept of Funk n’ Trunk morphed into many iterations of much larger designer showcases such as Inspiration for the Playa, Beach Chic, Prepare for the Playa and several other large scale fashion events heavily focused on the burgeoning couture of the Burning Man Festival.

Funk n’ Trunk is returning to its more intimate roots in 2009. The concept still remains the same. We wish to promote funky, high quality, unique independent designers, while offering women and men a fun, community shopping experience.

Lee Coombs Bio:
Bending boundaries and ignoring the status quo – where would the Breakbeat scene be today without Lee Coombs. For over a decade this British producer has been at the forefront of it all; releasing groundbreaking mix CDs, remixing the world’s most acclaimed artists and knocking out dancefloor destroying productions that are considered classics years after their release.

A seasoned veteran, Coombs first hit the DJ slopes in 1989, bathing himself in the acid house scene at parties around London and Cambridge. Crucial in shaping his all-encompassing approach to DJing and production, this boundary-less approach would become Coombs’ trademark, mixing up breaks, house, electro, techno and acid with dexterous assurance.

When he is not in the producers chair, Coombs regularly tours all corners of the globe and is a bona-fide fans favourite throughout Europe, the USA, Australia, Asia and of course the UK. His popularity has also ensured his repeat appearance at infamous festival ‘The Burning Man’ in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

In an industry that’s so often governed by trends and fads, Coombs’ unwavering ability to simultaneously destroy dancefloors and push musical boundaries almost 20 years since he first touched a pair of turntables is a remarkable achievement in itself. With plans to further spread his production wings to writing music for film and TV, as well as producing bands, there’s little doubt that his impressive sonic skills will be rocking ears for many years to come.

The Show is one of the Bay Area’s best monthly underground events, providing you with those dirty, nasty, funky beats that keep you on the dance floor all night. Every third Sunday, we showcase the heroes of the underground scene that bring us the newest sounds. In the evening, we showcase breakbeats, electro, hip hop hybrids, hyphy, glitch, acid bass, and dubstep. In the mornings we feature house, tech house and progressive house beats.

Our past guests include: Hipp-e & Halo of H Foundation, Mephisto Odyssey, The Space Cowboys, Nick Thayer, David Starfire, An-ten-nae, DJ Laura, Smoove, Mancub, Laird, S.I.M.O., all the Opulent Temple DJs, Hookerz & Blow, Fred Funk, Ernie Trevino, Michele Bass, Aaron Jae, Murphstar, Simon Littlewood, Motion Potion & The Fringe DJs M3, Solar, Galen, Anthony, Dory Kim, Patricio, DJ Icon, Eric Sharp, Rooz, Manny Ward, Vahid, Russell Vargas, Mikey Tello, Dawn of Sound, Adnan Sharif, Steve Prior, Layne Loomis, Chuck n’ Roll, Paul Guido, DJ Antares, Seven, Keith Deckard, Sleazmore, George Cochrane, J-Bird, Jason Greer, Sol, Sunwoo, Gordie, Greg Eversoul, DJ B, Jared F and many more.
