Nicole Doherty, Owner
Nicole Doherty is a marketing and event services consultant with a knack for getting people inspired and excited about something! Since graduating from Georgetown University with a BSBA in Marketing, she’s been cultivating her skills passionately. With over 15 years of combined experience in advertising, marketing, sales, event planning and production, she’s founded her first consulting company. Using the name NicolePresents for all of her independent work since 2004, she brought that name to the steps of the courthouse on St. Patrick’s Day (for Irish luck!) March 17, 2009.
Nicole has managed all types of clients in developing marketing strategies and producing events from private dinners to elaborate corporate product launches. Tapping into her network of relationships in the marketing and event services industries, Nicole joins forces with the most cutting edge DJs, indie fashion designers, and innovative performers of all kinds, to produce energetic, creative experiences all over San Francisco.
The longer story
Nicole grew up in New Jersey (don’t ask, “what exit?”). From early on her three loves were the arts, socializing and traveling. She excelled in art classes, threw tons of parties in high school and had traveled around the world with her family by the time she was 17.
Nicole graduated from Georgetown University in D.C. in 1994 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and minor in Fine Art.
After a few years working at a marketing firm in New York City, Nicole moved to San Francisco for more sun and sky.
After six years working in executive advertising and marketing, and pushed along by the dot-com crash, Nicole decided to pursue her dream of performing. She attended American Conservatory Theater and Expression Center for New Media in San Francisco, spent two years performing in independent films, commercials and theater.
During this time, Nicole took a took a trip to Asia to dive deeper into her self and elected to volunteer abroad teaching English to kids in Nepal. Nicole realized that she could combine her love of people, performing and the arts with her business and marketing abilities in event planning. Her first event was a fundraiser in 2003 which resulted in the building of a computer lab in Nepal dedicated to the memory of her father who had recently passed away. Nicole volunteered most of her free time producing events while she was working full time in sales and finance.
That same year, Nicole was introduced to the Burning Man Festival, an experience that reinforced her commitment to follow her own path – one of creativity, passion and energy.
Nicole has been throwing successful events ever since 2004. From 2004 to 2006 she had a two year run with a trunk show event called Funk n’ Trunk at Levende Lounge in San Francisco. This had the twofold benefit of increasing the size of the venue’s Sunday brunch crowd and boosting visibility of the participating designers, several of whom now have storefronts. This trendsetting event has become a staple event in the San Francisco design industry.
Nicole founded NK7 Productions with partners Kollol Huda and Sean Evans in 2005, directing their marketing, business development and financial operations. NK7 produced hundreds of events all over the city from 2005 – 2007, with a focus on underground nightlife. NK7 was photographed for a Smirnoff & 7×7 magazine ad featuring influential personalities in the San Francisco nightlife scene. They received big community buzz for a fundraiser co-produced with Alcheme Salon at Ruby Skye which was hosted by Wendy Takuda of KRON-TV, generating press from SF Station, Nitevibe and 7×7.
NicolePresents is a strong supporter of non-profits and has significant experience raising funds for individuals and non-profits alike. Her most notable contribution has been to Room to Read (www.roomtoread.org) as one of its volunteer chapter leaders since 2003. Her chapter’s last fundraising event in 2007 resulted in over $450,000 in contributions through corporate matching, live and silent auctions.
In 2006 – 2007 as the Marketing & Events Manager at supperclub San Francisco, Nicole managed over 40 corporate events – a small sampling below:
- Gary Danko’s 50th Birthday Party – This remarkable event’s guest list featured the who’s who of the San Francisco restaurant industry and was featured in several San Francisco publications. Live entertainment was provided every hour on the hour for the 200 plus seated dinner.
- 365 Main Client – This event featured special guest Treasure Island Festival DJ/VJ Mike Relm, who delivered an incredible performance on a specially mounted audio-video stage.
- Namco Bandi Video Game Press Event for the Gaming Developer’s Conference –This event posed huge logistical challenges as video game consoles had to be installed throughout the venue so that the press could demo new games.
- Universal Studios – This very special event was given a casino night theme. Casino equipment was brought in to recreate the look and feel of a Vegas casino. The headliner Vanessa Carlton performed on a baby grand piano in the center of it all.
- BMW – For the automotive giant’s afterparty for the SFMOMA release of Olaf Eliasson’s new sculpture. The venue was transformed into a larger-than-life living room scene with huge fish tank and requisite real-live mermaid.
NicolePresents brings to bear her 14 years of experience in the San Francisco scene and her impressive network of relationships in the marketing and event planning industry. NicolePresents produced two very successful behind the scenes fashion shows under the name Beach Chic at supperclub, booking out their dinner business to capacity. For this event she brought in a full team of models, hairstylists, makeup artists, stylists and coaches. This translated to business for the featured designer and for the restaurant.
Three large scale fashion events, Prepare for the Playa, were produced over the summer of 2008 at Café Cocomo. Each featured a trunk show with over 40 independent designers, several fashion shows throughout the day, educational seminars and performances, centered around preparation for Burning Man. These events were massive; each had 700-1000 people in attendance and generated approximately $30,000 in revenue for the designers. The events were picked up by the San Francisco Chronicle, Wired Magazine, Current TV and several other smaller publications. Secondarily these events helped raise funds and generate press for our artist benefactor.
In 2009, NicolePresents reintroduced the Funk n’ Trunk shows at Triple Crown and another large scale burner fashion event called Beyond the Fence at Mighty. Beyond the Fence was as successful as the Prepare for the Playa event series with over 1000 people in attendance.
NicolePresents also produced a highly successful launch event for YogaWorks in and began to offer full marketing and communications packages for business launches, as many of their Clients were start-ups and small businesses and needed more than just one event (i.e., Leela Travel, Wanderlust Festival, B-Girl Movie).
With NicolePresents’ expert knowledge of the San Francisco local community, its networks and the success in the launch of several Clients’ start up businesses, they began to offer full marketing and communications plans that include marketing strategy, guerrilla marketing, public relations, social media and event planning and production.
